Expansion Funding Partners LLC is a team of like-minded professionals with a common purpose to improve the conditions of our world through a new approach to helping small businesses break through the glass ceiling.

Joseph J. Cecala, Jr. – President and CEO

Prior to founding Expansion Funding Partners, Mr. Cecala operated a full service law firm in Chicago, Illinois, Cecala Law Offices, P.C. The firm’s concentration was transactional law dealing with corporate finance, financial reporting and due diligence for investors in the commodities, venture capital and private investment markets. Cecala Law Offices, P.C. served clients in the stock brokerage, manufacturing, healthcare, real estate and construction businesses. The firm negotiated and closed over 100 transactions over a 10 year period.

Mr. Cecala’s counsel and advice in relation to accounting and securities reporting matters have been delivered to successful and well known organizations such as Equity Property Management, Inc. owned by investor Mr. Sam Zell, Commerce Clearing House Publishing Co., and Household International, Inc. (now merged with HSBC) as well as other private and public manufacturing, real estate and banking institutions.

No stranger to the courtroom, Mr. Cecala also maintained a full service litigation practice for transactional clients maintaining membership in the Federal Trial Bar with trial privileges in Illinois, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Mr. Cecala holds a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law where he served as an Executive Editor of the DePaul Business Law Journal. He is a Graduate of Loyola University of Chicago where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and holds a Certified Public Accounting certificate from the State of Illinois. After graduating from Loyola with honors as a Distinguished Military Graduate – United States Army, Mr. Cecala went on to serve 9 years in either the active military service or in the Army reserve concluding his service honorably at the rank of Captain.

Ioannis V. Floros – Research & Quantitative Analysis

Ioannis (Yianni) V. Floros is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance at Iowa State University. Dr. Floros conducts research primarily in the areas of corporate finance and specifically in going public decisions, securities offerings and contracts. Currently, he and Mr. Cecala are writing a white paper together. His academic research appears in the Journal of Financial Intermediation, the Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Management and the Journal of Banking and Finance. Dr. Floros taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Pittsburgh, at Iowa State University and at Zurich Elite Business School. Dr. Floros currently serves on the Academic board of Zurich Elite Business School.

From 2012-2013, Dr. Floros was a Visiting Academic Fellow at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. While there, Dr. Floros served as the leading economist in rules related to the JOBS Act (Regulation A+ exemption) and participated in the formation of the economic baseline and the cost-benefit analysis of Dodd-Frank rules (Asset backed securities-risk retention). Dr. Floros also researched fraudulent activities conducted in OTC markets.

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Floros worked for Accenture S.A. as a senior financial consultant where he was involved in asset and liability management, implementation of integrated treasury systems and data migration projects. Dr. Floros holds a B.Scn. degree in Economics from the University of Piraeus, a M.Scn. degree in Economics and Finance from Warwick Business School and a Ph.D. degree in Business Administration from University of Pittsburgh. In the academic year of 1997, Dr. Floros attended the Extension School of Harvard.

Thomas Hrinowich – Vice President of Client Services

Mr. Hrinowich is the Vice President of Client Services where he has responsibility for service delivery of all management consulting and financial management products.  Prior to Expansion Funding Partners, Mr. Hrinowich founded BroadPeak Collaborative, a professional services firm that provided a unique blend of CFO-level services to meet the financial and operational needs of the emerging middle market.  An integral component of this solution has been the deployment of cutting-edge financial modeling and dashboard reporting capabilities.  BroadPeak Collaborative merged with Expansion Funding Partners in January 2011.

Previously, Mr. Hrinowich was the Managing Director for an international professional services firm where he had full P&L responsibility for the firm’s Chicago office and led the launch of the supply chain and information technology service lines.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Hrinowich was a Regional Marketing Director at HCM, a leading provider of decision support products and services to the healthcare industry.

Mr. Hrinowich earned his MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dwain Kyles – Special Counsel

dwain_headshotAs Special Counsel (Senior Consultant) to Expansion Funding Partners, Mr. Kyles puts his legal, government and business experience to good use as he helps to shape unique approaches to the strategic positioning and financing of marketing, sales and distribution efforts by our clients. Having held positions in the federal government in Washington, DC, both with Congressman Harold Ford, Sr., as well as with the former Department of Health, Education and Welfare, he brought those insights and skills back to the City of Chicago during the administration of Mayor Harold Washington, where he served as both Special Counsel for Minority Business Development, and ultimately moved to McCormick Place, where he established the in-house law department.

At various times these positions involved lobbying, labor negotiations, transactional oversight, as well as developing strategies for the roll-out of a variety of public policy initiatives in volatile political environments. This training stood Mr. Kyles in good stead as he later pursued private sector legal and business opportunities in the health and beauty aids, entertainment, hospitality, logistics and healthcare industries over the last two and a half decades. Serving as both legal counsel, as well as an entrepreneur in some of these business pursuits, has provided him with a broad array of experience and relationships that allow him to access an even broader array of resources that are being made available for clients of Expansion Funding Partners.

Mr. Kyles received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies and Economics from Lake Forest College and his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.

Eric Martinez – Executive Vice President

As partner and Executive Vice President of Expansion Funding Partners, Mr. Martinez helps set the firm’s overall direction and oversees all firm activities. He sees that that our team consistently provides excellent service, that clients are fully prepared before being introduced to investors and that, once the parties are ready, deals are gotten done in a timely and efficient manner.

Before joining Expansion Funding Partners, Mr. Martinez founded a successful technology services and hardware provider. This growing company focuses on network infrastructure, automated identification systems and general hardware and software. Prior to this, he managed operations for a multi-office brokerage firm in the Midwest, where he became expert in business relations, compliance and all operational matters dealing with the day-to-day affairs of running a financial firm. Mr. Martinez earlier held the position of Vice President with an information technology firm in Chicago, overseeing sales and delivery of general IT support and project services. Mr. Martinez brings a vast wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of business management, finance and expansion. He utilizes these skills to help our clients achieve their goals.

Jennifer Martinez – Senior Vice President of Administration

Ms. Martinez is the Senior Vice President of Administration for Expansion Funding Partners. She plays an integral role in all aspects of the company’s administration. Ms. Martinez personally oversees staff hiring, internal training programs, the firm’s IT infrastructure and firm efficiency.  She also oversees the promotion, marketing and publications of the firm.

Prior to Expansion Funding Partners, Ms. Martinez recruited for a heavy industry recruiting company, specializing in placing high-level executives and engineers. Before that, she ran the online marketing and publications division for an expanding online fashion company. Earlier in her career, she garnered a vast amount of executive experience working with a non-profit organization where she held the position of Director of Training, overseeing delivery of various training courses to students of all levels. Ms. Martinez earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications from Miami University of Ohio.

Greg Molinaro – Vice President of Business Development

Greg Molinaro is the Vice President of Business Development. In this capacity, Mr. Molinaro oversees a team of management and financial professionals as they introduce new clients to Expansion Funding Partners and our services. The Business Development team works with these clients to isolate and address the key areas preventing their expansion or that would eventually act as a barrier to raising capital or exiting their business at the highest possible valuation.

Prior to Expansion Funding Partners, Greg worked in the manufacturing industry for over 20 years as a Corporate Account and Business Development Manager helping Fortune 500 companies identify and implement data collection, information technology and controls solutions for manufacturing automation. Greg worked with Rockwell Automation for over eight years where he was responsible for helping manage the relationship and business development of a $200,000,000 partner. Additionally Greg was responsible for the business development of a multi-million dollar territory. Previously Greg was a project manager responsible for the design and build of electrical control systems, which automate manufacturing equipment. The projects Greg completed were implemented by Fortune 100 businesses. Early in Greg’s career he worked with IBM in Rochester, MN testing the AS/400 mid-range computer. Greg earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

Diane Teeman – Vice President of Treasury

Ms. Teeman handles the accounting functions for the Treasury Division of Expansion Funding Partners. Her duties include oversight of accounts receivable and payable, banking and client invoicing as well as working with the executive team on financial planning.

Before joining Expansion Funding Partners, Ms. Teeman spent eleven years as the Office Manager for the owner of a financial services company specializing in corporate and personal taxes and small business corporate structuring. Prior to this, Ms. Teeman worked for twenty years in the commercial printing industry in production, estimating, outside sales and customer service. Before this, she worked for a large Chicago advertising agency in Radio/TV Commercial Production and then travelled the East Coast working for various companies full and part time. Ms. Teeman brings a varied and lengthy working career of expertise to our team.
